All Indian festivals are directly connected with the local harvest season. India being a vast country, harvesting season falls at different times of the year at different places. We have curated a festival calender of the various festivals, cultural rituals and celebrations of India. Theyyam

Theyyam is a brilliant ritualistic dance form mostly conducted at homes or temples mostly in Northern Kerala. It is deeply rooted in folklore and mythology. Theyyam is an intense performance where artists embody divine or ancestral spirits through colourful costumes, stunning makeup and physically power packed rituals. This art form combines dance, music and a variety of devotional ritual demonstrations.

Shadow Puppetry (Tholpavakoothu)

This is an old traditional art form from Kerala, featuring the technique of shadow puppetry. It involves intricate puppets made of leather maneuvered by clever use of strings and shadow images are cast on a screen with light illuminated behind it. Puppets represent characters from Indian epics like Ramayana or Mahabharata.
Performance narrate ancient stories accompanied by music and vocal recitation, portraying Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.

Garudanthookam

This is a traditional dance form from Kerala. Garudanthookam is known for it’s colourful and rhythmic movements. Performers wear unique costumes that represent a mythical bird called Garuda. They display exciting dance moves that involve rhythmic footwork, gestures and expressions. Storytelling with the accompaniment of lively music is an integral part of Garudanthookam.

Onam

Onam, Kerala’s vibrant harvest festival, is a major attraction for tourists.
